Sindalah STP: Pioneering Sustainable Water Management and Economic Efficiency

The Sindalah Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) exemplifies Nesma & Partners’ leadership in sustainability and innovation, aligning with the Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) broader environmental and economic goals.
Designed with cutting-edge water treatment technologies, Sindalah STP maximizes efficiency while minimizing waste. A key success of this initiative is the integration of a circular economy approach, with over 95% of treated water reused for landscaping, construction, and other non-potable purposes. This significantly reduces freshwater demand, enhances resource efficiency, and strengthens environmental sustainability.
Processing approximately 330,000 cubic meters of wastewater annually, the plant has cut CO₂ emissions by 1.3 million kg and saved over 492,000 liters of diesel each year, significantly improving air quality. Additionally, Sindalah STP has reduced environmental impact through optimized treatment processes, further minimizing its footprint.
From an economic perspective, the project delivers direct savings of more than 10 million Saudi riyals annually. These savings reinforce the project’s financial sustainability while supporting broader economic goals. Also, the project’s logistical efficiencies have resulted in a 1.3-million-kilometer reduction in travel distance, saving approximately 309,000 hours of travel time (35 years). These time and cost savings contribute to increased productivity and improved quality of life for the local community.
Sindalah STP has also set a regional benchmark for sustainable infrastructure, demonstrating how integrating water treatment with logistical efficiencies can drive both environmental and financial gains. Recognized as a Green Asset, the project enhances green spaces, improves regional livability, and aligns seamlessly with NEOM’s vision for sustainable urban growth.
